What you will need for a safe kayaking trip on the River Dee

Kayaking in Chester is extremely popular at this time of year, thanks to the great atmosphere on the River Dee, and the many surrounding attractions that can be enjoyed when one is done with the river.

If you are thinking about coming to Chester for a kayaking trip, there are a few things that you will need to remember to bring with you.

A kayak

Of course, you will need a kayak if you want to go kayaking, but you do not actually need to have one of your own. It is possible to hire a kayak for use on the River Dee, if you would prefer to do so.

Paddles

The other essential item you will need is a good kayaking paddle. Of course, if you don’t have your own, you can hire one of these once you get to the River Dee too. If you are looking to buy your own, however, you should look for a paddle that feels comfortable, so that you will be able to use it without issue on the water.

A buoyancy aid

When it comes to kayaking, you should always put your safety, and the safety of your family, first. This is why you will need to either purchase or hire a buoyancy aid for each person that will be going on the water.

Buoyancy aids should fit tightly, and you must always make sure that they are correctly fastened.

A wetsuit

Although not strictly essential, if you are new to kayaking, you may want to consider bringing along a wetsuit, just in case you find yourself taking a dip in the lovely River Dee.

Helmet

Again, this is not strictly essential, but it is always better to take precautions against injury if you can, and you can get no better protection than a good kayaking helmet.
