Top four things to do in and around Chester this September

September is always a good time for River Dee canoe hire, not only because the weather still tends to be pretty good for canoeing, but also because the River tends to be much less crowded than it is during the peak months of summer. This is why you should definitely consider kayaking in Chester in September.

Another reason why you might want to do so is the fact that there are so many events going on in the area during the month. Here are just a few of the best:

Gardener’s Question Time – Monday 7th September

If you are a gardener, or you would like to find out how you can be more green-fingered, this should be an unmissable event for you. Taking place not far from the River Dee, at the Grosvenor Park Pavilion, a number of gardening experts will head up a panel and field your questions about all things garden-related. This event will raise money for the Chester Rotary Club.

Lee Child book signing – Tuesday 15th September

If you are a fan of Jack Reacher, you might want to make sure your kayaking trip coincides with the visit of the books’ author, Lee Child, to Chester’s Foregate Street branch of WH Smith, where he will be meeting fans and signing copies of his latest novel ‘Make Me.’

Steel Magnolias – Thursday 17th September

Fans of the 1989 movie of the same name will not want to miss Tip Top Productions’ version of the classic tearjerker ‘Steel Magnolias’ which is set to be played out on stage at the Forum Studio Theatre in Chester.

The Great British Food Festival – Saturday 19th September

After a vigorous session of kayaking in Chester, you will probably be in the mood for some decent grub, which is why you should pop along to this festival at Arley Hall, where you will find cooking demonstrations, food talks, and most importantly – a vast array of food vendors.
