Take an Our Zoo tour in Chester this summer

When you’re not kayaking in Chester, there is no need to be bored. Every year the city does its utmost to ensure that residents and visitors alike have plenty to keep them occupied. Some of the most exciting events available in Chester this year are the ‘Our Zoo Tours’.

Millions of people were enchanted by the recent BBC drama ‘Our Zoo’ which charted one man’s struggle to start a zoo in Chester. Now, you and your family can embark on a summer tour of Oakfield Manor – the location where Chester Zoo was started back in the 1930s.

Family life

On the tour, you will be able to visit the rooms where he Mottershead family (who founded Chester Zoo) resided and worked. The rooms have been redesigned so that they are in fitting with the period when the zoo was first founded.

Dining experience

Once the tour of the world famous location has been completed, you and your family can sit down to eat together. There will be a choice of a full meal, tea and cakes or a more formal afternoon tea.

Prices for the tour start from £21.45 for a children’s ticket, with adult tickets starting from £36.

See the zoo

Once you have toured the Manor and taken in a meal, you may want to make a day of it by also visiting Chester Zoo itself. The zoo is one of Chester’s most popular attractions, and is home to a wide range of animals and displays including elephants, rhinos, big cats and meerkats.

Popular exhibits at the zoo include Cacti in the Greenhouse, the Sunken Garden, face painting, the Ape Around play area, and a number of informative animal exhibits. There really is something for everyone at the zoo.
