National Go Canoeing Week starts this weekend

There are just a few days to go until this year’s National Go Canoeing Week dips its first oar in the water, and there is a host of activities and events taking place up and down the UK.

With 120 events taking place in 2012, it is hoped this year’s event will build on successes of the London Olympics, and be even more successful.

Many clubs will be running starter sessions, for example, while others will also be having fun races, special exhibitions and demonstrations and meet-and-greet sessions. Wherever canoe enthusiasts happen to be in the country, there will be something nearby.

Talking about the upcoming fun, Go Canoeing’s Development Officer, Jenny Spencer said:

“We’re confident National Go Canoeing Week 2013 will be even bigger and better [than 2012] and whether you’re an absolute beginner or an experienced paddler there will be something exciting for everyone to get involved with.”

Anyone that fancies having a go at canoeing in the Northwest may well want to head to the River Dee for a guided tour from experienced paddlers.

With canoe and kayak hire, safety equipment hire and instructions, there is a great 12-mile stretch of calm waters ideal for getting a real taste of how much fun the sport can be.

National Go Canoeing Week 2013 starts from this Saturday, May 18, and runs through to Sunday, May 26. At least 400 clubs in the UK will be holding their paddles aloft and taking part in the event.
