Horses and history in Chester

You may already be aware of Chester as a great place to go kayaking in the Northwest, but there is so much more to the city. Chester is an historical city with links back to the Roman Empire. It has also played a prominent role in the country’s history over the years. As well as that, it is a great deal of links to the horse community.

If you would like to get to know these aspects of the city more, this summer is the perfect time to do so, thanks to two fantastic events that are being held towards the end of the season.

Bank holiday re-enactment

Historical re-enactments may not be the first thing you think about when planning your August bank holiday weekend, but this year’s re-enactment of the ‘Battle of Rowton Moor’ is set to be a spectacular sight.

Taking place over the bank holiday weekend, dozens of historical reenactors from the ‘Earl of Manchester’s Regiment of Foote’ will descend on the city and recreate what was the last big battle of the English Civil War in all of its glory for all to see.

A perfect event for families, history buffs and anyone who wants to try something a little different this summer

The Coutts International Polo Weekend

On the horse side of the equation this summer, we have ‘The England International Polo’s Coutts International Polo Weekend’, which will kick off at Chester Racecourse on September 4. The event will see teams compete to win £10,000 in cash. As so much money is on offer, some of the most prominent players in Polo are set to put in an appearance.

Admission to this event is free, which makes it the perfect day out for families who are looking for low cost ways to stay entertained.
