Cheshire adventurer set for kayaking challenge

A father who is always up for an adventure is planning to kayak 28 miles across the English Channel next month.

Paul Hardaker, 44, had originally planned to complete the trip last year, but he was forced to put off the challenge due to poor weather conditions at the time.

Previous challenges completed by Hardaker, who is affected by Crohn’s disease, have included a solo trip around the UK coast in a 27ft yacht, and a motorcycle journey through the Pyrenees.

As well as his Channel challenge, the Widnes thrill-seeker will be kayaking in the Northwest this month, as he paddles his way from Leeds to Liverpool. He will set off on June 25.

Not only this, but adventure-loving Hardaker is also planning a gruelling motorcycle journey from his home in Cheshire to the Arctic Circle, where it is expected he will face tough conditions.

Speaking to Runcorn and Widnes World, he said:

“I like a challenge. I make myself a target and I don’t like to fail. This charity did massive things for me. This is my way of thanking them. More and more young people are suffering from it. It totally knocks you off your feet. Every penny I raise will help others.”

Hardaker who is a civil engineer, hopes that his efforts will help him to raise £10,000 for Crohns & Colitis UK – a charity that has helped him with his condition for many years – while also raising awareness of the disease.
